Dean Jones Personal Biography

I'm a Melbourne Australia based artist, looking at taking my gig on the road.The ethos behind my exhibits are "one night only" shows giving a spontaneous nature to the work in that you have to make your mind up instantly, no time to kick tyres - automatic love or hate. As my work is all word based I incorporate a improvised performance with the exhibition which is never the same, making each show unique, never to be repeated. So the audience/patrons are getting something personal.

All my work is formed from original text of my poems, sonnets, songs, rants and raves, prose and short ditties...creating dog eared pages in the book that is each exhibition. Each painting carrying the power of text, the emotion of words firing like bullets through the visual weight of meaning.

With my last exhibition"It Comes In 3's" an improvised performance linking in with my artwork creating a 3 tiered sense of seeing, hearing and saying to the work. The performance acts as a mezzanine layer over the art, giving each piece its own personality, explanation and movement!

Stand back and see, stand up and read, absorb a message, take in a
thought and hum a song, speak the spoken, echo to the point of stepping back and getting what you need from each piece.

Part punk, part street, part mantel pieces ,part lover, part soapbox, part wonderwall album poster, part sinner, part solitude, part of the emotional ride of filling in time.The sum of all the individual parts of the social and political backyard of today!
