CherryRock012: FU cos we got the Fu! Southern Californian Stoner Rockers FU MANCHU, in an intense coup for the Cherry Bar in AC/DC Lane Melbourne, will headline their sixth annual street music festival, CherryRock012 on Sunday 29 April 2012. Cherry booker and co-owner James Young says, “It has been a decade since Fu Manchu’s ‘California Crossing’ tour in Australia. There’s going to be so much fuzz on the speakers in AC/DC Lane that we may have to shave them.” Young says that this year they took a different approach to securing their headline act, “In the past when we’ve had The Datsuns, Rose Tattoo and Died Pretty to a certain extent we were after the best that was available and presented to us. This year we just sat back and said, who would be the best band in the whole world to play CherryRock012? Fu Manchu. Agreed. OK. Let’s go get ‘em!” As usual, the only street rock n' roll festival in Australia, CherryRock012, will run from 12noon till 9pm across 2 stages in Cherry Bar and in AC/DC Lane, featuring some fifteen killer rock acts. Also confirmed… San Franciscan doom-sludge-metal duo Black Cobra (USA), our best local hard rock psychedelic act Matt Sonic & the High Times, loose rockers Bitter Sweet Kicks, thrash-punks Vice Grip Pussies, local Southern rockers My Dynamite, Celtic-punk rockers The Ramshackle Army all-girl young grunge trio Valentiine with many more surprises to come. It’s time to be proud of Melbourne for being the rock n roll capital of the Southern Hemisphere. It’s time for CherryRock012. A mere 500 tix available for pre-purchase from Monday 23 January at 9am for $82 (inclusive of Booking Fee) here For media enquiries and any other annoying requests: ______________________
Cherry Rock Design is Born! As an artist manager and as the owner of a Bar, two music labels and an advertising agency I have always found running a nimble and creative Design Studio to be incredibly useful. Bands need art. They need specialist help. They need posters, ads, flyers, bios, single, EP and LP art. They need to stand out and look great. They need it quick. And they need it to be cheap, let’s face it. So, I’ve decided to share my Design Studio and the considerable talents of Mark Van De Beek with the Melbourne music scene. I now book over 500 bands a year at Cherry. Beek does all my posters. Beek’s been with me for over three years. He was good in his first year, better in his second, great in his third year, and now he’s officially an off-the-hook specialist music art designer. So Cherry Rock Design is born. And for just $50 we can design a shit hot poster for your next important gig. One exciting new initiative involves a collaboration between the AFL, Music Victoria and local musicians titled Live at the 'G. It's a year-long and on-going program devised to add to the game day experience, but most importantly to help ascendant contemporary artists (at first instance Little Red, Paris Wells and Airbourne) find a broader audience using AFL channels including a live performance before an MCG blockbuster, promotion through online and social media platforms, Footy Record, media partners and synced music uses. Finally a new way for quality acts to connect with people! It really is a BIG idea, and thanks to AFL General Manager of Strategy and Marketing Andrew Catterall, Music Victoria CEO Patrick Donovan and James Young at Cherry Rock it's up and running... Look out! The opening schedule of Live at the G looks like this: Round One: Friday 25 March, Cats v Saints: LITTLE RED Round Two: Friday 1 April, Saints v Tigers: PARIS WELLS Round Three: Friday 8 APril, Pies v Blues: COLLINGWOOD SUPERGROUP* Round Four: Friday 15 April, Tigers v Pies: AIRBOURNE Typically the bands will play three songs a half-hour before the match and one song directly before the bounce. All on a new purpose-built stage amongst the fans in the City end forward pocket... Check out The Music Network's press on the subject here. Stay tuned as we update the poster art we've created for the event, as well as some great live shots of the performers, each week.

______________________ Cultural Marketing with the AFL Cherry Rock has been working with the AFL as a 'Cultural Marketer', where we use culture as opposed to traditional advertising to connect with a target audience. What the f#ck does that mean? Here's an example... We used street artist Makatron (www.makatron.com) to create feature street art pieces in the suburbs of Collingwood (Johnston St), Footscray (Irving St) and St. Kilda (St. Kilda Rd) during the September AFL Finals series, celebrating those footy teams in an unexpected, creative and new way. Thereby exciting people about footy away from the game itself and away from traditional communication mediums. You see, footy belongs to the people.

CherryRock010 on Sunday 2 May was the 4th annual Cherry Bar AC/DC Lane music celebration event, representing Australia's only dedicated 100% rock n roll festival. This year we had 25 bands, 24 from Melbourne, across three stages in a unique celebration of local street rock n' roll literally in the streets of Melbourne. Rock legends Rose Tattoo headlined with an incredible support cast that included Ash Grunwald and Kram (playing together for the first time), Dan Sultan, Beaches, The Fearless Vampire Killers, The Gun Street Girls, Matt Sonic and the High Times, Money For Rope, The Once Overs, Bittersweet Kicks, Eagle & The Worm, Barbarion and more. 650 lucky punters bathed in an orgy of relentless rock. Our biggest bill, our best line-up, our lowest ticket price. It was an unbelievable success story for Melbourne and asserted its rightful place as the true rock n roll capital of Australia, if not the world...
